Abstract

High blood pressure or hypertension is a medical condition where there is a chronic increase in blood pressure. Hypertension treatment can also be done with non-pharmacological treatment, one of which is consuming honey which can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The aim of the research is to determine the effect of honey consumption on blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension in Tarai Bangun Village in 2023. The type of research is research using a Quasi-experimental method with a pre-post test research design in one group (one group pretest-posttest design ). This research was conducted on 19-23 September 2023 with a population of 363 hypertensive elderly and a sample size of 18 respondents obtained using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used a sphygmomanometer and observation sheets. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis with the T-test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the average blood pressure before being given the honey solution was 168.56 with a standard deviation of 5,147. And the average blood pressure after being given the honey solution was 164.33 with a standard deviation of 4,790. The statistical test results obtained a P-value of 0.000 (<0.05), which means there was a change between blood pressure before and after being given honey solution to hypertension sufferers in Tarai Bangun Village. It is hoped that the elderly will always control their blood pressure and take advantage of herbal medicine in the form of honey to lower blood pressure
